My biggest takeaway from this course was developing an understanding of how to define enterprise Enterprise Architecture. It was not easy and it took some time to analyze and reflect on how my current organization implements this structure. I not only wanted to define it, but learn it in a way I can one day ensure it’s implemented efficiently. One perspective that stuck with me was the building of a house, we need building, floor, electricity and plumbing plans to stabilize it. Just like a house plan, a business needs a strong foundation as well. A business needs processes, organizations (employees), location, data, applications and technology.
Another takeaway was developing the perspective and current and future states. It’s extremely critical to map out the present and future state of a business and then develop a plan of transition from the present to the future. Businesses do it all the time, you need to know where you want to go (goals/vision) and begin assemble the team that will help get you there. EA is the structure that will help us out in this process to ensure it’s done in a systematic and organized way.
My third and final critical discovery through this course is the development of broadening my perspective. Since I’m currently in the classroom and don’t have leadership experience in an educational setting, it has been very difficult to gain the perspective of a leader/administrator. However, through my conversations with our administrator and teacher leaders, I’ve been able to gain that insight. Also, looking at the current structure, plans and processes of my current organization gave me the “behind the scenes” perspective that I cannot gain while i’m in the classroom. The weekly analyses of my organization through each assignment has been extremely valuable as a future leader.
