“Business Architecture is the foundation of Education Enterprise Architecture and drives all the other architectures to ensure that EEA focuses on the agency’s goals and strategies.” (Reform Support Network, 2014) As I think about the processes of our organization/district: transportation, nutrition, educational services, human resources, health services, maintenance and operations and technology, I began to expand my vision from the classroom to a bird's eye view of the processes. Through my experiences in our school and the district, I can look back and connect the dots on how each department assists in achieving the mission and vision of the district. As I navigated our district website, I noticed that most departments did not have clear mission or vision listed, there didn’t appear any cohesiveness. Through my experience, there is a ton of miscommunication between departments, I believe there needs to be more communication and ensuring each department understands the purpose and the role they play in achieving the overall mission/vision.
To achieve this communication, there has to be an improved blueprint, Business Architecture. I believe our organization has an existing foundation, however the BA framework will improve the overall product and service we provide for our teachers, staff and students. BA architecture will ensure the tangibles (people, equipment, buildings) and the intangibles (process, software, organizational structure) effectively interact with one another to meet the mission and vision that has been established. This week's assignment to research each department and their responsibilities and how they affect one another was an eye opening experience. I am beginning to understand BA can positively affect an organization.
