As a future leader, I don’t believe in having separate plans for technology in the district. For example, a “district education plan” and the “technology plan” should be combined instead of being implemented in isolation. The education and technology plans have a direct relationship and should combined for efficiency and in alignment with the mission and vision of the school district. All departments support the same goal, student achievement.
21st century learning and the skills students need for the world of today and tomorrow will include technology. Any plan that is implemented in isolation of technology, is not going to prepare our students for the world they will compete and live in their near future. Preparing students with competencies such as collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving without the integration of digital literacy will not prepare our students to one day thrive in the world of today and tomorrow.
Combining the district education and technology plans will make the planning, analyzing and implementing process more efficient as there won’t be many moving parts - whether it’s data, personnel, financing and/or applications.
