The module 3 & 4 assignments allowed me to dive in deeper into my organization and truly understand the purpose of each department. I decided to research the current and future states of transportation, human resources, technology, maintenance and operations, child nutrition, finance and business, and teaching and learning. As a teacher, my mindset tends to be locked into the classroom and this assignment allowed me to broaden my perspective into the leadership arena. The assignment also helped me identify the need to develop a current and future state business architecture.
"Enterprise architecture is a strategic information asset base, which defines the mission; the information necessary to perform the mission, the technologies necessary to perform the mission, and the transitional processes for implementing new technologies in response to changing mission needs; and includes a baseline architecture, a target architecture, and a sequencing plan." (Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework, 2013) It's not only important to identify the future state of an organization but it's equally important to identify the transitional phase from current to the future state. How are we going to get there? In addition, this assignment identified the importance of knowing that the organization must use Business Architecture to guide them in the “what, who, how, when and why of the agency’s business”. (EEA Guidebook, p.11) These are the key questions needed for an organization in order to make sure they are working efficiently and effectively towards their mission/vision.
